(Reuters) -French energy major TotalEnergies signed a 10-year agreement to supply renewable electricity to European data centre operator Data4’s sites in Spain, the company said on Tuesday.
Starting in January 2026, the contract will deliver 610 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity from Spanish wind and solar farms which will soon come online, the Paris-listed group said in a statement.
“This agreement confirms Data4’s commitment to renewable energy, which is all the more strategic at a time when the race for AI is underway. We anticipate a threefold increase in the energy capacity required for all data centres in Spain by 2030,” said Data4 CFO François Sterin.
TotalEnergies’s increasing investment in electricity allows for a more predictable income stream that does not follow the boom and bust cycles of the oil and gas industry, TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne said on Monday at Abu Dhabi’s annual International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC).
