India’s Uttar Pradesh state raises sugarcane floor price

MUMBAI (Reuters) -India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh has raised the sugarcane price that mills must pay for the new crop by 8.1%, a state government said on Wednesday.

For the crop year that began this month, Uttar Pradesh raised the price of early-maturing sugarcane to 400 rupees ($4.55) per 100 kg, up from 370 rupees last year, the government said.

The state is the second-largest sugar producer in the country and mills are likely to start operations next month.
