KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) -Malaysian energy firm Sarawak Energy Berhad is said to be exploring the possibility of listing its power generation business on the Malaysian bourse, local media reported on Monday, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.
The listing of the company, which is owned by the Malaysian state of Sarawak, could be one of the country’s largest in recent years, and several local banks in the country have been approached, The Edge reported.
Citing sources, the report said that the listing exercise would likely only happen within the next two years and perhaps after Sarawak’s next general election, which could happen next year.
Sarawak Energy produces most of its power from hydroelectric dams and has recently also expanded into solar power. It also exports power to West Kalimantan.
Sarawak Energy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
