Indian shares open tad higher as bank stocks support

(Reuters) -India’s stock benchmarks opened marginally higher on Monday as strong quarterly business updates from lenders supported their shares.

The Nifty 50 was up 0.09% at 24,916.55, while the BSE Sensex added 0.08% to 81,274.79, as of 9:15 a.m. IST.

Nine of the 16 major sectors advanced at open, with banks leading the gains with a 0.44% rise after lenders posted strong loan growth for the September quarter.

HDFC Bank reported a 10% growth in advances for July-September, while Kotak Mahindra Bank posted a 15% net growth in loan disbursals during the quarter.

The broader mid-caps and small-caps added 0.1% and 0.3%, respectively.
